Myeni: Is It A Norm?
Posted: 10 October 2020
Former Orlando Pirates Football Club midfielder Sfiso Myeni has exclusively spoken to The Beautiful Game and has confirmed that he has not retired from professional football.
Myeni was let go by TS Galaxy earlier in the year and has been searching for a club ever since then. The mercurial winger has questioned the behaviour of South African clubs, saying;
“I always say in South Africa, as soon as you reach 30, your career becomes a bit sketchy, is it a norm? Why is it like that Karabo?
“I look at Sundowns, their winning and they have Hlompo, he is old but he is playing very well under Pitso (formerly of Mamelodi Sundowns). I mean Hlompo is 34, he just signed a new four-year contract, you hardly see that in South Africa.
“As soon as you hit 30, they give you one-year contracts, and then they say ‘no ai you are a bit old’, and you start moving from one team to another,” concluded Myeni.
The now 32-year-old has called on South African football clubs to change their ways against footballers over the age of thirty. Myeni is currently training and keeping fit with the club he owns and hopes to get a new team soon.
