Will George Play At Sundowns?
Posted: 3 July 2020
ABSA Premiership reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns confirmed the capture of former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka on a Bosman free transfer after he reportedly rejected a contract extension at Naturena. The 31-year-old arrives at a club that is blessed with midfield options par excellence and becomes difficult to see where he fits in at the well-oiled Sundowns machine.
The Brazilians currently prefer inspirational skipper Hlompo Kekana and a man in the form of his life, Andile ‘Gattuso’ Jali in the center of midfield, with Oupa Ace Manyisa, Sammy Seabi, Tiyane Mabunda, Lucky Mohomi, and not forgetting the incoming duo of Grant Mangerman from Ajax Cape Town and Haashim Domingo from Bidvest Wits respectively…which begs a question; will George Maluleka have game-time at Sundowns?
Maluleka is no slouch; dictates the pace of the game on his day, a pass-master, a workhorse, technically-gifted, tactically astute, however, where will he find his place at Chloorkop?
The club’s head coach Pitso Mosimane is not the one to tinker with a winning formula, but might be enlarging his depth as their involved in more than five competitions year-in-year-out. It remains to be seen where and how will George fit into the jigsaw at Sundowns.
