Dona T…The General!

South African township Soweto is a factory of pure football talent and has produced many footballers of the highest quality over decades…but there is one who will always stand out; Tsholofelo Teko Modise. Modise retired from professional football a season ago after an illustrious career, turning out for Rea Stars, SuperSport United, Orlando Pirates Football Club, Mamelodi Sundowns and most recently Cape Town City.

Dona, as known to others, is one footballer who had swag on the pitch, style off it, personality of a prime-time television super star, and ability of a magician at his peak. No one can doubt his contribution in football, winning the ABSA Premiership Footballer of the Year twice in succession, and going on to winning the biggest gong in African football; The African Champions League.

His former coach, Pitso Mosimane, once said about Teko “What a fantastic player. He is the best player I’ve ever coached, the boy never missed a training session and he loves football guys,” concluded Pitso.

The Soweto-born was such a special player to an extent of carrying various nicknames, from The Navigator to Google Earth, and The General, simply because he could dictate terms in the middle of the park with ease, dance on the ball and hit top-drawer set pieces.
