Sundowns Star: Why I Rejected Arab Offers!
Posted: 12 May 2020
Mamelodi Sundowns shot-stopper Denis Onyango has recently extended his contract for the next four years at the club, which will take him through to 2024. However, the Ugandan international has revealed that there were offers for him in the Arab countries but decided to stay put.
Onyango has been one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the ABSA Premiership and told The Beautiful Game why he remained at the club, saying;
“Uhm (pauses)…the club has been there for me in all difficult situations; when I lost my dad, when I had issues with my wife, and when my son also had issues, they’ve (Sundowns) been there…So why should I abandon a club that has been so good to me? And relocating at this stage of my career would not be good for my kids and family because they have been here for the last 10 – 15 years, it wouldn’t make sense,” concluded Onyango.
The 34-year-old goal-minder has been with the Brazilians for more than seven years; winning the league title on three occasions, the African Champions League among personal accolades and has reiterated his happiness at the club.
